Investing for Health
Cookstown District Council have signed up to the Investing for Health Strategy as a core delivery partner. The Strategy seeks to address the imbalance between the prevention and treatment of ill-health, particularly social and economic irregularities, by developing partnership working arrangements.To help deliver on these key aims, the Council have developed a number of Key themes to take forward actions under the Health Improvement Plan (HIP) for the period 2003-2008 - www.nhssb.n-i.nhs.uk
The Environmental Health Department in conjunction with the other Council Services have recognised the importance of implementing practical health-based interventions at a local level.
A real-life example of this approach is the assistance given by Council under the Northern Neighbourhoods Health Action Zone Programme, which is currently being operated within the Ratheen, Greenvale and Sullenboy communities. - www.nnhaz.co.uk
In addition to these actions, the Council also engages in a number of other programmes to target health and social needs and promote sustainable or long term development.
