Water Quality

Private Water Supplies

Water Quality

A safe supply of drinking water is vital to good health. Private water supplies can pose a threat to health if they are not properly protected and treated.

It is important that your supply of water is kept safe, therefore, you should inspect all parts of your supply regularly, to check that it has not been interfered with or damaged. Your supply should be protected from surface water, septic tank discharge, animals and general debris.

If you use a private water supply, arrangements can be made with the Environmental Health Department to take a sample for analysis. If you would like your water supply sampled, please record your details on the attached sheet. Click here to make a complaint.

Recreational Water

The Environmental Health Department carries out regular monitoring of water used for recreational purposes i.e. swimming pool, spa pools etc. The water is tested for the presence of coliforms, E.coli and pseudomonas.

Incidents of Water Pollution

All incidents of water pollution are investigated by the DoE Environment & Heritage Service - Water Pollution Section, regardless of whether the material is sourced from domestic, commercial, farm, or industrial.

For further information please contact the Water Pollution Hotline (24 hrs) Tel: 0800 807060 or www.ehsni.gov.uk
