Town Twinning

"Town Twinning is an arrangement whereby towns or cities in geographically or politically distinct areas are paired with the goal of fostering human contact and cultural links. "

The general objectives of these partnerships are:

Cookstown has been oofficially linked with Plerin Sur Mer in Britanny, France since 1995. During this time the relationship between the two towns has strengthened and grown through frequent dialogue and regular exchange visits.  Participants in these exchanges have included representatives from the areas of sport, the arts and in particular education.

Town Twinning in the Cookstown District is managed by the Town Twinning Committee which is comprised of elected members and representatives from various backgrounds relevant to Twinning.  Whilst the committee receives support from Cookstown District Council in the form of an annual financial contribution, the majority of its activities are funded by EU Grants which the committee must apply for.
